The investment system is a powerful, yet often overlooked, tool for tackling negative corporate impacts on the world. ShareAction is a charity and campaigning organisation working to unleash the power of the investment system to truly serve society and protect our environment now and in the future. We do this by: Mobilising ordinary people who have a stake in the investment system through their pensions and savings; Collaborating with civil society organisations who share our vision; Campaigning to unlock the power of investors to change corporate behaviour (on issues such as climate change, decent work and human rights, sustainable food and public health); Working with investors themselves to improve their practices, and Influencing the policy-makers and industry regulators that can ensure the investment system serves these interests in the long-term. As part of our work to improve corporate impacts, we launched the ambitious Workforce Disclosure Initiative (WDI) in 2017, which uses the power of investors to push multinational companies to deliver good quality jobs and decent working practices in their own operations and their global supply chains. The project is coordinated by ShareAction in collaboration with international partners SHARE and RIAA, and funded by UK aid from the Department for International Development. The WDI brings investors together to request credible, comparable data from companies via a survey, disclosing how they perform against decent work standards. Job Description For ShareAction as a whole, you will help further our mission and build our public profile through managing an events calendar, identifying and arranging speaking opportunities and supporting teams to deliver ShareAction hosted events. In support of this you will assist our Communications Manager in engaging key stakeholders through press and social media. For the Workforce Disclosure Initiative, you will seek and deliver opportunities to ensure that the WDI is positioned as a thought leader on workforce issues/ decent work practices, that the initiative is well profiled in outlets that reach our target audiences (companies and investors), and that online/offline communications and events present a compelling case for improved working conditions. You will have day-to-day responsibility for delivering events that drive understanding and engage the WDI's core audience - companies and investors - to become more involved in disclosure and the delivery of decent jobs. The role will involve a mix of events planning and co-ordination, project specific digital and media communications, and contributing to strategy. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 2 days a week this role will be focused on supporting ShareAction as a whole in its events planning and communications delivery. Those responsibilities include: Events strategy and planning Build an annual calendar of events that ShareAction should attend and speak at; Design and implement a process to ensure the organisation tracks and plans attendance at relevant external events; Logistical support for internal teams planning ShareAction hosted events. Communications Work with the Communications Manager to support our social media and media engagement across all of ShareAction's areas of work. 3 days a week will focus on supporting our Workforce Disclosure Initiative specifically. Those responsibilities include: Strategy Work closely with the WDI team and the Communications Manager to set the initiative's communications strategy, ensuring that companies and investors see and understand the value of decent work and participation in the WDI; Develop and manage communications plans. Events planning, organisation and delivery Work closely with colleagues to ensure that appropriate content is prepared for webinars, roundtables and an annual conference; Work with the team to ensure that the right audiences are identified and attend; Research and negotiate venues and suppliers; Manage event budgets; Create running orders and ensure all stakeholders are fully briefed; Work closely with the WDI Coordinator, WDI Engagement Officer and Intern to oversee all event-related administration; Work closely with the WDI Coordinator and relevant colleagues to ensure that the WDI monitors and learns from event feedback. Communications Work closely with the Communications Manager to identify and deliver media opportunities, and develop beneficial external relationships; Plan and ensure the delivery of WDI's social media and website content, including coordinating content from team members; Work with colleagues to ensure that all communications related to the WDI (print, online, electronic newsletters) make a persuasive case and contribute to the WDI's aims; Contribute to research outputs, report writing and proofreading; Track media developments relevant to the WDI and Good Work programme; Ensure that contacts for own area of work are updated on the database (Salesforce). Person specification We are looking for a passionate, determined individual, with the following experience and skills: ESSENTIAL Experience in setting targets, developing plans and supporting others to deliver communications outputs and events; Excellent written and oral communication skills, including confidence in pitching on the phone and acting as an external spokesperson; Proven ability to interpret and communicate complex information; Strong planning, coordination and prioritization skills; Proven ability to undertake varied tasks simultaneously and work to tight deadlines; Flexibility and creative problem-solving skills; Ability to work independently but exercise judgment to seek advice when appropriate; Confidence in using IT to manage data and communications (Outlook, PowerPoint, Salesforce, Sharepoint, Skype, WordPress;) Strong commitment to collaborative working and ShareAction's values of accountability and transparency. DESIRABLE Experience of working with translators and other freelancers and service providers; Knowledge of Salesforce or other CRM systems, and file management systems such as SharePoint; Knowledge of the media landscape in the UK and using social media for campaigning; Understanding of ShareAction's theory of change and a demonstrable interest in the issues we work on.
