Events and Communications Coordinator

Main purpose of the role: To support the Communications, Advocacy and Fundraising and Partnerships teams, with a focus on planning, preparation and delivery of our series of convening events and our global Summit (30 April- 1 May), alongside wider communications and organisational tasks. Key Responsibilities: Events Support; Convening Workstreams and Summit 2019 Work closely with Communications and Advocacy team project leaders to ensure each Consumers International event meets its objectives and aims, are delivered to budget and partner criteria, leading on specific event outcomes as required. This includes, supporting: • the sourcing and researching of potential speakers, contributors and interviewees on various digital and consumer protection topics. • the writing of speaker briefings, event agendas and evaluation reports and managing their design and publication to bring event elements to life. • the sourcing of venues in the UK and internationally, arranging event logistics and AV and engaging with venue staff. • the provision of logistics support for international guests attending events. • the development of some practical organisational systems and processes to support the delivery of similar events and sharing ideas for new event formats. • the work to manage and grow the Consumers International's contact database to secure attendance and promotion for Consumers International events. Fixed term contract until April 2020 Full-time This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced press/communications officer to step into a global media coordination role, generating and facilitating media coverage of a major Greenpeace campaign in 2019-20. We're looking for a skilled, media-savvy operator who can hit the ground running and get some high-impact media coverage, while working with colleagues in offices around the world to coordinate and deliver press work internationally. Greenpeace's Ocean Sanctuaries campaign will see an ambitious 12-month expedition from the Arctic to the Antarctic, conducting groundbreaking scientific research and highlighting the many threats to the ocean along the way, from climate change to plastic pollution and industrial fishing. It will also see political activities in countries around the world and at the UN, alongside negotiations towards a historic UN Ocean Treaty. One week you might be working with a celebrity who's on board the ship, the next week you might be putting together a media release plan for a major scientific report. The Global Media Lead will work with national and international media outlets to arrange periods on board the ship during the expedition and will work with press & communications colleagues in Greenpeace offices globally who are delivering portions of the expedition, to ensure their plans maximise media opportunities, both domestically and globally. You'll be working for Greenpeace UK but as part of a global Communications & Engagement team for the Ocean Sanctuaries campaign, based largely in London, and in collaboration with press and communications colleagues in Greenpeace offices all around the world. The location for this position is therefore flexible, subject to agreement, although a significant overlap of working hours with a Europe-Middle East-Africa time zone is essential.
