Job Title: Publicist Reports to: Group Publicity Manager - E4, All 4, Digital Department: Press & Publicity DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION The Press & Publicity department is responsible for generating and shaping earned media coverage and driving buzz around Channel 4's programmes, content, vision, services and talent. The department proactively publicises Channel 4's programmes and content across all newspapers, digital, TV and radio, magazines, trade publications, and with influencers - with a view to driving audiences and amplifying its brand and reputation. The department is responsible for communicating the effectiveness of Channel 4's delivery against its public service remit and protecting the reputation of the organisation, its individuals and programming. P&P handles all media requests for programme information, talent and executive interviews, clips and pictures. JOB PURPOSE The Publicist role is to devise and implement creative, targeted and effective publicity campaigns that ultimately drive audience viewing to programmes across all Channel 4 platforms, including E4 and All 4. The role will also have a particular focus on finding innovative ways to reach new Channel 4 audiences by building relationships with influencers and driving digital content creation - working closely with the Publicity Content Producer. This Publicist role will work across multiple programming genres, supporting and promoting priority programmes and regionally produced content including content made by the Digital Creative Unit (DCU) based at the National HQ in Leeds. E4 and All 4 content, talent and brand campaigns will also be a priority. The role will report into the Group Publicity Manager, E4, All 4 and Digital who will be based in London, and will work alongside Leeds-based members of the Press and Publicity Department. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Execute creative publicity strategies and targeted campaigns for assigned priority programmes and content on Channel 4, E4 and All 4- as well content created by the DCU Communicate with all external media to promote priority programmes and content - including print press, broadcast and digital media, and influencers - to reach target audiences Collaborate with all members of the P&P Department as required to deliver priority programme campaigns across all programming genres - with a focus on creativity and innovation Work closely with the Publicity Content Producer on influencer and digital campaigns Select and cut digital clips for publicity purposes Manage internal and external stakeholders incl Channel 4 commissioning executives, independent production companies, agents, personal publicists and talent Set up and manage talent interviews, press days and photoshoots in relation to promotion of their programmes Identify potential press issues and work with GPMs to agree and execute appropriate action Write and create press materials including press releases, billings and press packs to deadlines Prepare and share written updates and evaluations with senior team and stakeholders Partner with Publicity Assistants to share skills and best practice Form excellent working relationships with journalists and influencers across full range of media, including digital and social Field and answer press inquiries in a timely manner Work collaboratively with other C4 departments, incl Marketing, Social, Legal, Commissioning, DCU - to realise integrated promotional campaigns ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS Technical & Professional Skills Proven record of publicity work - does not need to be in TV, but experience of consumer-focused media, arts, fashion or music campaigns is desirable Experience of and interest in digital, social and influencer PR Experience in basic editing or digital content creation is desirable Flexible approach and ability to adapt style to work on a range of programmes Ability to spot news lines Excellent personal and written communication skills Autonomy/Judgement/Decision Making Proven record of writing press materials and responding to press enquiries to deadline Managing Resources Demonstrable experience of working on creative PR campaigns with limited budget Relationship Management Confident briefing senior colleagues Excellent relevant contacts across a range of national and regional media, digital and influencers Ability to develop good working relationships with stakeholders Complexity/Problem Solving Ability to identify press issues Business Impact/Strategic Perspective Ability to think strategically under pressure Full Role Description Further information Celebrating diversity is at the heart of Channel 4's purpose both on-screen and off-screen.
