The Press Manager is a key role within the busy Marketing and Communications team, leading and managing the organisation’s media relations and PR activity, celebrity and patron management and case studies.
Our press work plays an essential role in helping reach more people affected by bowel cancer, raising the profile of the organisation in the media and building the charity’s reputation as the leading expert on the disease.
Lead and manage the organisation’s media relations and PR activity, celebrity and patron engagement and case studies.
Responsible for media relations in all four nations, identifying and maximising proactive and reactive media opportunities, writing and distributing press releases, statements, Q&As and other media materials and the first point of call for all media enquiries.
Lead on recruitment and stewardship of case studies from across the organisation including interviewing and supporting contributors. This includes leading on case study led opportunities such as the real life stories section of the website, case study led blogs, vlogs and podcasts.
Help to ensure supporters have the best possible tools to maximise their own PR and media activities including writing template press releases and providing advice and expertise.
Attend events to build relationships with case studies. Lead on developing and maintaining relationships with the media and focus on building strategic relationships with new and existing contacts.
Develop and deliver proactive media and PR plans and activities to raise the profile of Bowel Cancer UK and raise awareness of bowel cancer.
Develop creative ideas for news stories and features proactively pitching these to the media.
Provide expert media advice and training to staff and train and support spokespeople to ensure they receive full and timely briefings.
Proactively work and engage with all teams across the organisation to identify ideas for stories and case studies.
Identify potential reputational risks and undertake appropriate crisis communications / reputation management.
Monitor, evaluate and report on our media activity and coverage using Gorkana.
Act as the main point of contact for LEWIS PR agency (who provide pro-bono support to the charity) and brief them on media projects that require their support.
Manage relationships with existing celebrities and patrons, identify ways for them to support the charity and research and build relationships with potential new celebrities and patrons.
Lead on entering the charity for national awards and encourage teams to enter award applications for their work.

Deputise as required for the Head of Marketing and Communications.
