Head of Partnerships

Job Description

Reports to: Director of Impact, Youth Endowment Fund
Salary: £55,000 - £65,000 dependent on experience
Location: Central London
About the Youth Endowment Fund
The Youth Endowment Fund is a bold new attempt to put early intervention at the heart of efforts to tackle youth offending.
Over the last few years, evidence suggests that growing numbers of children and young people have been affected by violent crime. More children have been found carrying knives and a growing number have been recorded as victims. We believe that each individual child is an important member of our community and society has a duty to protect them.
The Youth Endowment Fund is a charity with a £200m endowment and a mission that matters. Founded by youth charity Impetus and its partners the Early Intervention Foundation and the Social Investment Business, we exist to prevent children and young people from getting caught up in violent crime. We do this by finding the very best ways to prevent youth violence, funding great initiatives and working to scale them up and spread great ideas.
We have an ambitious goal to raise a further £100m to make this change happen. We want to build partnerships with other funders to share best practice and learning whilst directing more resources to tackling serious violence and building a legacy beyond the ten years of the fund. We need you to make this a reality.
Key Responsibilities
Most fundamentally, your job is to shape and drive our strategy to deliver £100m of funding over the next ten years. To do this you will:
• Build and nurture fantastic relationships with potential funding partners. You will work collaboratively with a range of funders, thinking creatively and strategically to maximise opportunities.
• Develop, deliver and report on our fundraising strategy and tactical plans to ensure we achieve our target. This will span our work with trusts and foundations, other grant-making bodies, commissioners (such as Local Authorities), philanthropists and corporates.
• Test and hone our materials, approach and systems to improve the fundraising ask and our stewardship strategies.
• Work closely with colleagues across the Youth Endowment Fund to identify new opportunities and ensure partnerships are realistic and deliverable.
As a senior staff member you will also:
- Help build a culture where it is natural to perform well and support colleagues brilliantly.
- Help to inform the strategy, deliver results and build and model the culture that we need to succeed.
About You
You are this sort of person:
• You win people over. People tend to warm to you and respect you. You have built great partnerships that are celebrated by all involved. You are comfortable asking for funding, support and partnerships. You are a kind person.
• You make things happen. You have experience of getting to the heart of a strategy and turning it into operational plans. You especially excel in situations of ambiguity where there are not clear rules to follow, previous patterns to copy or clear evidence of what will work. You bring courage to your work.
• You are a great storyteller. You can bring a compelling narrative to life. The way you write and speak connects with people. You inspire confidence and trust. You know that attention to detail in written communication really matters.
• You work hard. You have the energy and enthusiasm to achieve ambitious targets. You are tenacious, prepared for failure and ready to bounce back from setbacks. You are focused and work smart.
• You learn fast but remain humble. You are very quick at getting your head around things. You like learning. You are very good at synthesising information. You know how much you don't know. You know that you can learn more. You know that it's easy to assume you know when you don't. You care more that good things happen than who gets the credit. You are a great and supportive team player.
• You consistently work well under pressure: You can meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment while managing different priorities.
• You don't want your days to pass without making a difference. You want to play a significant part in reducing the level of youth violence.
• You are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion.
You must have this sort of experience:
You have …
- Significantly Fundraised: You have a track record of raising six figure grants from grant-making trusts and foundations, statutory bodies and corporates, working at national, regional and local level.
- Built Partnerships: You have significant experience in building strategic, long lasting partnerships. You can show how these have been effective in delivering impact beyond money.
- Developed and Delivered Strategy: You have significant experience of developing strategies. You can then translate them into great ideas and actions.
