A little bit about our team

As a Planning team, we oversee UKTV's 7 commercial linear channels making schedules available to both Freeview and Pay-To-View platforms. The Playout Planning Team are responsible for overseeing the delivery of a 100% accurate schedule to transmission. We start work on schedules roughly 3 weeks in advance after receiving a month's completed programme schedule from our Scheduling department. It is then our responsibility to build the schedule, on a day-by-day basis, which consists of placing interstitial elements into the schedule; checking programmes and versions; importing commercial and sponsorship files from Channel 4 and then "timing-up" the schedule so that it is frame accurate across the day.

We ensure that we are not contravening OfCom's rules on both commercial minutage and programme billing. At the point of handing over the schedules to transmission, we thoroughly check that all elements have been delivered and that the schedule is ready to be transmitted. Finally, after transmission, we ensure that the schedules reflect any changes that may have occurred, for editorial or technical reasons, and send the relevant reports.

Purpose of the role

This role is required to support business critical activities during migration of our playout services.

The difference this role will make to the wider business is, ensuring continuity and accuracy of output for UKTV schedules, whilst working with multiple providers delivering these services.

Opportunities during this time will be, to work in a fast paced, project environment and to support new and changeable business process for the operation. Essentially working on transmission schedules and supporting Seniors to manage and deliver requirements throughout the project phase.

The role will offer an insight into the workings of scheduling for a major broadcaster. There are regulations around programming and advertising that are important to understand. Being a part of the team that ensures these guidelines are met, is a very important element of understanding how we work.

  • The ability to produce accurate and error free schedules to Playout
  • Knowledge of broadcast management systems, operational practice and commercial channels
  • Experience of Whats'On scheduling tool would be advantageous
  • Experience of developing new working practices in a co-operative environment
