Picture Editor

The Royal Society of Chemistry is a professional body, a membership organisation and an international publisher with the goal of advancing excellence in the chemical sciences. With close to 600 employees, based in Cambridge, London and internationally, we do this by publishing high quality chemistry journals, books and magazines, by engaging with our circa 54,000 members and by interacting with our community to raise the profile of chemistry and ensuring high quality standards within the chemical sciences. Position: Picture Editor
Location: Cambridge (commutable from Alconbury, Bedford, Bury St Edmunds, Cambridgeshire, Cambridge North, Cherry Hinton, Chesterton, Ely, Fen Drayton, Fenstanton, Histon & Impington, Hitchin, Huntingdon, Longstanton, Milton, Newmarket, Northstowe, Oakington, Orchard-Park, Royston, Saffron Walden, Somersham, St Ives, St Neots, Stevenage, Swavesey, Waterbeach, Wyton and surrounding areas)

Job type: Full Time, Permanent
Hours: 35 hours per week
Salary: £27,733 - £30,814 per annum plus benefits

As our Picture Editor based in Cambridge, you will be part of a small team of creative professionals. You will provide imagery for the whole organisation - from engaging educational pieces to award-winning magazines, books and everything in between.

Our creative design work, both digital and print, must attract attention, inspire involvement and create the desire to take action among all our audiences, meeting exceptional standards of quality that reflect our organisational reputation. You'd be expected to deliver a programme of planned activity that balances the competing demands of a growing and diverse organisation whilst also achieving value-for-money from our suppliers.

About you:

- A degree in chemistry or related subject.
- A creative mind with an eye for visual detail and excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills and experience of proactively dealing with customer queries and solving issues.
- Good numeracy skills and the ability to work within budgets.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, along with the ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines.
- Efficient and highly competent in the use of software packages associated with PCs.
- Experience of picture research, image libraries and associated copyright laws (this would be advantageous).
- Experience of the software tools used in magazine and book production, specifically Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat (preferred).
