Please note: Internally this position is called Media Monitoring & Data Analysis OfficerThe aim of Samaritans' awarding-winning media guidelines work is to support the media industry in approaching the topic of suicide responsibly. As the Media Monitoring & Data Analysis Officer you will be leading on the monitoring of news reporting, identifying articles of concern for follow up with editors, maintaining the date and producing reports to inform the development and improvement of Samaritans' media guidelines work. This role is regularly exposed to emotionally challenging material which can be upsetting. Samaritans provides a supporting and friendly environment where your wellbeing is a priority. We support people through our Media Heath First Aid network, independent counselling support phoneline, and support from a team of qualified psychotherapists, trained to trauma support. Full-timePermanent£28,000Based in Ewell (Surrey) with a mix of home working and office workWe encourage flexible working, talk to us about your preferencesKey ResponsibilitiesDaily monitoring of news reporting of suicide. Read and assess articles for adherence to Samaritans' media guidelines, assess, rate, and log all stories (print, online, and occasional broadcast) Using media monitoring data to develop and produce regular reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually) on suicide reporting, including rail specific reports, for the purpose of highlighting insights and key trends in media reporting to inform this area of work Work as part of the team to support the continued development of the media guidelines resources and inform communications to promote theseGeneral duties of a Samaritans' Staff MemberSkills and ExperienceWorking knowledge of UK mediaExperience of reading and assessing written pieces - strong analytical and interpretation skillsExperience of data collection and able to produce clear informative reports using our dataExcellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate, engage, and influence people at all levels to achieve goalsEmpathises with Samaritans' valuesAt Samaritans, our vision is that fewer people die by suicide.
