The Educational Recording Agency (ERA) is a copyright licensing agency facilitating the use of TV and radio recordings across the education sector.
The Educational Content Producer is responsible for planning, developing and managing ERA's varied and growing suite of innovative teaching and learning online tools and resources designed around the very best broadcast content. Covering all mainstream subjects taught at key stages 1-5 and beyond, including the FE and HE sectors, these resources range from easily searchable archives of curated content to comprehensive collections of lesson plans for the teaching of specific subjects and skills. All are tailored to curricular requirements and subject-specific learning objectives. The principle objective of ERA's growing range of tools and resources is to enable teachers to utilise the power of audio-visual materials to improve learning outcomes and reduce teacher workload, thus delivering improved teaching outcomes.
The explosion in online teaching and learning arising from the closure of schools and colleges and the ongoing reverberations being felt in the education sector as a result of the COVID 19 pandemic has underlined the critical importance of digital content, not least those deploying audio-visual resources.
To be able to serve the evolving requirements of the educational community, ERA's development strategy is based on a detailed and timely understanding of the changing needs of educational institutions and the students they serve and the latest developments in pedagogical thinking.
The Educational Content Producer will be responsible for both developing resources and commissioning them from third parties.
They will also work closely with the Strategic Planning and Outreach Officer to:
- Understand the needs of ERA's licensees and identify innovative ways in which those can best be met.
- Prioritise those subjects and key stages where the use of broadcast recordings and development of educational resources can add greatest value to teaching and learning.
- Collaborate with third party teaching bodies and educational organisations to develop and disseminate ERA's portfolio of resources.
- Develop and manage our CPD programme for teachers.
- Produce costed plans for the development of resources.

The role can be undertaken on a full or part-time basis depending on experience.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Manage the development of a portfolio of educational resources, including but not limited to carefully selected subject playlists, curriculum programmes and lesson plans, to support the use of broadcast content in teaching and learning.
- Work with the Strategic Partnerships and Planning Executive on the design and execution of market research activities to understand user needs, pilot new resources and identify and prioritise opportunities for resource development.
- Maintain and enhance existing ERA resources.
- Design specifications for new products and tools.
- Produce new resources including drafting copy and identifying appropriate programme clips.
- Commission resources from third parties and ensure they are delivered on time and budget to a high level of quality.
- Work closely with ERA's web developers to ensure the optimal design and functionality of online tools and resources.
- Organise and deliver CPD/training workshops on the use of audio visual content in teaching and learning for TTPs, MATS and other organisations involved in teaching and skills development.
- Work with the Operations Executive to set the strategy for the selection of subjects and programmes for clipping.
- Maintain a detailed understanding of the latest pedagogical developments, best practice in teaching and learning, education policy and subject specification and performance assessment developments.
- Keep up to date on the impact of technology on teaching and learning.
- Identify and manage grant application opportunities.
- Regular communication with licensees, professional teaching bodies and subject associations to refine understanding of teacher requirements and ways of encouraging usage of broadcast recordings; design and manage customer feedback processes.
- Attendance at industry exhibitions and conferences.
- Provide input into development of assorted marketing initiatives such as email recruitment campaigns and competitions.
Degree or teaching qualification.
- At least three years working as a teacher and/or in educational publishing.
- A wide range of teaching and learning situations.
- Development of teaching resources.
- Project leadership and working to tight deadlines.
- New media and content management systems.
- Working as part of a team.
- Teaching or editorial skills.
- Good understanding of the education landscape in the UK.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
- Good working understanding of content management systems and technology used in the classroom.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Powerpoint and Excel.
- Fact checking and copy-editing.
- Some experience with WordPress.
- Social media.
- Sufficient financial understanding to be able to manage a project P&L.
- Confident and pro-active.
- Good knowledge of broadcast media and understanding of its educational potential.
- A good eye for detail and quality control.
- Love of writing and content creation.
- A positive attitude with a commitment to the aims of the organisation.
