Job Description

There's no other organisation like the National Trust, Europe's largest conservation body. No other organisation brings such an incredible array of places and spaces to life.

Beningbrough Hall is a Grade 1 listed Mansion about to embark on a series of infrastructure enhancements to transform our long term visitor offer. The most significant work to the building since the late 1970s the project will encompass compliance works including an electrical rewire and passive fire protection works, repairs to the roof and plaster ceilings and the upgrading of power, lighting and data to future proof the mansion.

We're looking for a qualified conservator with substantial post qualification experience in managing projects to co-ordinate and support care of collections & conservation during a major infrastructure project

This role is accountable for providing support, technical expertise and 'hands on' practical assistance to the project team in the care and conservation of the collections and interiors throughout the works. The project conservator will be an integrated member of a multi-disciplinary project team. The work entails packing of collections for storage, material protection of interiors, elements of supervising contractors work and documentation relating to the collections and interiors that could be at risk throughout the project.

Who we're looking for

As a qualified Conservator with ACR accreditation (or demonstrable experience of working to that standard) with substantial post qualification experience you'll have an in-depth knowledge of preventive and remedial conservation of collections and historic interiors.

You will have substantial of experience working collaboratively as part of a fast-moving team to a demanding schedule. You'll be highly organised, able to demonstrate strong leadership and project management skills, excellent negotiating and influencing skills, and the ability to deal with challenging situations with diplomacy and professionalism. With extensive applied experience of caring for buildings and collections, you'll possess the confidence to assess, mitigate, report and record the management of conservation risks during the project.

Experience of managing conservation during a major refurb project, capital or transitional period would be beneficial to support your application for the role.
