What it's like to work here

River Wey & Goldalming Navigations & Dapdune Wharf is a tranquil waterway running for nearly 20 miles through the heart of Surrey. The Wey was one of the first British rivers to be made navigable, and opened to barge traffic in 1653. This 15-mile waterway linked Guildford to Weybridge on the Thames, and then to London.

What you'll be doing

Working safely and efficiently, you'll look after water levels and make sure they are correct and consistent, using the weirs, tumbling bays and lock gate sluices to do so, making sure the waterway and towpath are safe at all times. We'd also like you to make sure everything looks spic and span on the towpath and in the surrounding areas which will mean, getting involved with grass cutting, strimming and painting. To help you carry out your duties efficiently, rent free accommodation will be provided.

Who we are looking for

You'll need a good grasp of river navigations, conservation and biodiversity, along with a qualification in countryside management. Hands-on and practical, you'll have a wide range of countryside skills and be able to use a mower, strimmer and chainsaw. The role is basically a Ranger with the added benefits of the waterway.
