Group Media Manager - 12 Month FTC
Would you like a highly interesting role working within a Head Office corporate environment, bringing new ideas to the BAE Systems Group Media team? We currently have a vacancy for a Group Media Manager at our site in Farnborough. Please note this role is a 12 month fixed term contract
In time, there will be possible travel to other UK sites to support media activities and build successful working relationships with colleagues across the businesses.
This role sits within the Group Communications function within Head Office reporting into the Head of Corporate Media Relations.
As a Group Media Manager, you will be responsible for delivering Group-level and UK based media communications that support the Company strategy and effectively communicate the Company narrative. The post-holder will work with the Head of Media Relations, UK, and Head of Corporate Media Relations, deputising for either position as required.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to gain a broad understanding of the Company, from key programmes to financial reporting obligations. You will get exposure across BAE Systems, work with senior stakeholders and build relationships with national journalists to help promote and protect the Company's reputation.
Your main responsibilities as a Group Media Manager will involve:
Supporting the Head of Media Relations, UK, and Head of Corporate Media Relations to deliver media communications in support of the Company strategy
Establishing and maintaining a close working relationships with key business and defence media contacts across print, broadcast, online organisations in the UK
Working with communications teams across the Company to advise, shape and influence the development of content that can be used across multiple channels
Using a range of digital media available to promote the Company's stories with relevant audiences and work with the digital and sector teams to provide data-driven evaluation
Developing and managing proactive media engagement plans, with effective measurement and evaluation, for specific projects or milestones, working with the communications team in the relevant UK business
Working with Head of Corporate Media Relations to deliver communications activity for corporate and financial reporting including Annual Report, trading statements, regulatory announcements and M&A activity
Project managing communications activities for the Annual General Meeting
Working with the Head of Media Relations, UK, to develop and execute media plans for the main UK tradeshows including DSEi and Farnborough International Air show, including evaluation to measure success and support future improvements
Responsibility for the management of the media monitoring account, being the primary contact for the supplier
Undertaking out of hours duty press officer duties (on a rota basis)
Your skills and qualifications:
Excellent written and media engagement skills
Experience of delivering integrated media communications across multiple channels, particularly digital
Experience of collaborating with individuals and teams
Good awareness of how the role interfaces with the rest of the wider communications function
Good commercial awareness and general business acumen
Creativity to bring fresh thinking and ideas to help drive the Group Media team to maximise use of digital media
Experience with managing content and sharing using social media channels

To be successful in this role you will have very strong verbal and written communication skills, and excellent influencing and networking experience. You will work well within a team and using your own initiative. You will have proven experience working in a media relations position and be confident using traditional and digital channels to engage with audiences. You will have excellent time management skills and be able to work well under pressure to tight deadlines.
