Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is the independent regulator for work-related health and safety. We act in the public interest to reduce work-related illness, death and serious injury across Great Britain's workplaces.
This is a very exciting time to be joining HSE, who are currently at the centre of the plans to create a new Building Safety Regulator responsible for implementing and enforcing a more stringent regulatory regime for high-rise buildings, as well as providing wider and stronger oversight of safety and performance across all buildings and increasing the competence of those working on building safety following the Grenfell tragedy (read more here: ).
In addition, as the UK prepares for the end of the Transition Period of exiting the EU, HSE is in the process of setting up a stand-alone UK Chemicals Regulator. This will result in significant expansion for HSE.
To help us achieve this we employ the largest concentration of health and safety experts in the country including frontline inspectors, specialists, policy delivery teams, economists, lawyers and administrators, all working together to help protect people.

HSE is seeking to fill a number of permanent and temporary roles in our Bootle and York offices. We are offering challenging and interesting opportunities across a range of different functions including, but not limited to: Human Resources (HR), Learning and Development (L&D), project support, policy roles, corporate support and roles supporting HSE Inspectors in frontline operational delivery.
Whichever role you are placed in you will, from day one, contribute to the important work we do. You will work closely with your colleagues to deliver the key responsibilities of the post. You will be flexible and responsive and able to respond to changing work priorities which allow you to develop your skills and knowledge. In all that you do you will be proactive, innovative and a be focused on delivering HSE's business as well as able to plan and prioritise your work.
Responsibilities
As part of this role you will need to: -
• Develop awareness and knowledge of HSE's work and organisational structure
• Acquire an understanding and knowledge of relevant operational and business support procedures and functions
• Work closely with your Team Leader and colleagues to deliver the key responsibilities of the post in a flexible and responsive manner, responding positively to changes of priority as work demands dictate
Some examples of the work you may be involved in include: -
• Provide a quality professional telephone service for HSE to enable responsible persons to notify the relevant enforcing authority of fatal and specified injuries resulting from work activities (RIDDOR) and ensure Concern/Advice calls are handled to the correct procedure.
• Provide professional administrative services to enable Concerns Handling Officers to carry out/support frontline activities.
• Input information to our computer systems, as well report out information from. You may also analyse information you produce to draw conclusions and help others to make decisions.
• Contribute to the delivery of HSE's recruitment campaigns, liaising with candidates and vacancy mangers you will ensure every applicant for our jobs has a positive experience.
• Process applications to transport explosives both nationally and internationally and explosives storage site license
• Communicate with customers and external stakeholders
• You will be required to proficient in the use of off the shelf software packages, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. We will train you to use our systems. The ability to report and analyse data from Excel would also be beneficial.
We will create a 12-month waiting list from this campaign, successful candidates will be appointed in merit order.
