Job Description:

Are you a creative thinker with a strong eye for detail? Do you have a passion for high quality magazines?

Dock Street is looking for a full-time Editorial Assistant to help create and develop a brand new magazine and be a key part of growing the social media and online strategy. You’ll assist in the day to day running of the magazine as well as creating online communities to drive traffic to the magazine’s website. You will report directly to the Editor and will also be involved in general magazine admin as well as writing news stories, features, picture researching, subbing, organising photoshoots and liaising with PRs. The ideal candidate will have lots of energy, a positive attitude and be willing to learn new skills on the job. You’ll will understand how to manage a brand’s social media presence and be able to create exciting and engaging content.

You will: 

  • Be working alongside a highly experienced Editor of national and international consumer magazines
  • Working for a dynamic new media company in interior designed warehouse offices on Ipswich marina
  • Excellent career progression and training
  • Have the opportunity to write and research news stories and features
  • Create a PR database and establish top industry contacts
  • Develop a web and social media strategy
  • Assist in every aspect of the production of a monthly magazine with occasional support to other magazines in the group
  • Re-writing, sub-editing, fact checking, proof reading
  • Co-ordinating shoot locations and props and working with photographers
  • Assisting in every aspect of the production of 12 magazine issues a year, plus website and social media activity
  • Devise a social media strategy with the editor  and take responsibility for social posts across all platforms and monitor wins via analytics – using data to fine tune the social strategy for maximum engagement.  

 

Job Requirements:

You will be degree educated, able to type and love magazines. You will have a natural ability to create great copy, spot mistakes and have faultless attention to detail. Ideally you’ll be proficient in social media analytics and understand how each of the social media platforms work including Facebook algorithms. You will have strong visual flair, be highly organised and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
