Rank Screen Advertising was originally a division of the Rank Organisation – a British entertainment conglomerate founded by industrialist J. Arthur Rank in 1937.

In 1996, British media company Carlton Communications purchased Rank Screen Advertising from The Rank Group and renamed the company as Carlton Screen Advertising.

In July 2008, Cineworld and Odeon acquired the company as a 50-50 joint venture and changed its name to Digital Cinema Media.

In September 2012, Digital Cinema Media became the first UK cinema advertising company, and one of the few companies across the world, to become a pioneering, fully digital operation.
